Firstly - I have done my best
to research the help forum for the answer to my problem. Having tried
everything that seemed reasonable, I am now reaching out for help.

Here's
the issue - A few months ago I received a replacement DNS-323. I put in
the HDDs, which are RAID 1, plugged everything in, and all was good. It
was like never was changed.

However as of this week, I cannot
longer access the DNS-323 thru Windows Explorer. It used to show up on
network as a computer, making it easy to add files, etc. It continued to
show up under storage, but only allows for GUI access

I can
still access the GUI, but not the files themselves. I have tried turning
off the firewall - no effect. I have checked the firewall allowed IP
range - the DND-323 is in the allowed range. DND323 was on DHCP Client
before this issue started. I have changed it to Static with no effect.
In the past week have I have changed NOTHING on my computer or network.

Computer Details
Windows 7
Dlink router, with DNS-323 plugged directly into it.
Fire Wall is managed by McAfree
UPnP sever still works as my PS3 can see the files.


Any and all help is appreciated.

Have you tried mapping a drive
to the DNS-323, either via the Explorer GUI or from a command line (the
NET USE command)?? Does it make any difference if you use the IP address
instead of the name?? Try something like this from the command line:

Code: [Select]

NET USE N: \\ip_of_DNS323\Volume_1

(Note that the N: can be any spare drive letter) If this fails then post the error messages, and perhaps also try a:

Code: [Select]

NET VIEW \\ip_of_DNS323

and include the results from that.

JavaLawyer - I don't have
another computer to test the DNS-323. However, I can confirm that files
are still accessable from my PS3. I have no problems downloading
exisitng files wirelessly from the DNS-323 to the PS3.

Pitts - I used "NET USE N: \\ip_of_DNS323\Volume_1" and I now have
access to the files on the DNS-323. Thank you! I would still prefer to
see the unit on the network, however atleast its just not a paperweight
now....

You
are seeing it on the network just not in the Network branch in
Explorer, an area where Windows is notoriously picky when it comes to
devices running other operating systems (or even older versions of
Windows). Personally I'd always prefer a mapped drive but each to their
own.

You could try enabling LLTD from the advanced tab.

"LLTD - Link Layer Topology Discovery allows the DNS-323 to be discovered by Windows Vista's network map.

(Note:
Enabling LLTD may cause decreased network performance. If you are
experiencing decreased network performance, try disabling LLTD.)"

1) press STOP/Restart button for 5 secs

2) Press and hold Green Power ON button holding stop/restart button

3) leave the restart/stop button and after 2 secs press twice the restart\\stop button

4) it will open in service mode then open the flap to remove the catridge

5) now close the lid widout the catridge and then switch off the printer

6) Now open the lid and then start the printer

7) then insert the catridge and now its ready to use.. ENJOY :-)
